Brave: Ashley (right) is slowly losing her ability to move thanks to a disease turning her muscles into boneThere are about 7000 known human diseases out of which only 500 has a known cure. The other 6500 have no known cure. The rarest and weirdest of them all is the one doctors call Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) which turns human beings into a statue. The lady pictured herein - Ashley Kurpiel, 31, suffers from Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva. She is one of an estimated 700 people worldwide with Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP). FOP is  incurable and it is sometimes known as 'stone man syndrome' because its devastating effects can leave sufferers completely immobilised, like living statues. She has already lost an arm and the movement in one leg to the condition. Nevertheless, she says she is lucky and is trying to live life to the full.
