BON Awards: Annapurna Salt to sponsor best child actor category

 

For the third year running, Annapurna Salt has announced its sponsorship of the Best Child Actor category in the Best of Nollywood Awards. According to Garba El-Suleiman, General Manager, West Africa Popular Foods, makers of Annapurna Salt, “We believe in Nollywood and the fact that its products capture our target market (mothers). Our main target audiences are the Mothers which is our channel to reach the children because Annapurna is an iodized salt that helps the children’s brain especially at their growing stage. And our brand aims to develop sharp and smart kids, qualities that are manifested in the nominees for Best Child Actor.”

 

El-Suleiman said that as has been the tradition since Annapurna started sponsoring the category, laptop computers would be given to winners in both the male and female categories.

The nominees for the Best Child Actor in the male category are Olamide David in Cobweb, Asimiyu Uthman Omokunmi in Ifa Iwa and Dozie Onyiriuka in Journey to Self. The nominees in the female category are Oyindamola Lanpejo in Finding Mercy and Titilayo Shobo in Unforgivable. Winners would be announced on November 9^th at the grand awards ceremony holding in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

 

According to the jury of the awards, “The award in each category goes to the child (under the age of 11) who delivers the most impactful performance in a movie. We looked at how they interpret the role and the conviction and consistence with which they see it through.”

Meanwhile, the organizers of the BON Awards have announced that its pre-awards event, the Talents Meet Class, which was supposed to hold on October 15^th but because it coincided with the Sallah holiday, was shifted. New Facts On BMW Scandal; Coscharis gave N112m kickback to aviation minister

The car company that sold the two BMW armored cars to NCAA, gave N112million to aviation minister Stella Oduah as kickbacks. (Kickback is a form of negotiated bribery in which a commission is paid to the bribe-taker for services rendered)

  

Even as the minister of aviation began a new spin today that the BMW armored cars purchased by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for her use were done on "hire-purchase", SaharaReporters has unearthed new details about the $1.6 million spent by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to purchase the armored BMW cars for Nigeria's Aviation Minister Stella Oduah.

A highly reliable source has told SaharaReporters that the shady deal for the car was done entirely between Coscharis Motors Limited, a dealership from which the cars were purchased, one of Ms. Oduah’s private firms based in Abuja, and First Bank of Nigeria.

“The NCAA was not even aware of the deal until the minister told them to sign that they had received two BMW cars,” said our source.

After inking the deal, Coscharis Motors, sellers of the highly inflated automobiles, reportedly gave the Aviation Minister more than N112 million as kickbacks. Our source added that Cosmas Maduka, who owns Coscharis Motors, pocked N60 million for each of the two BMW cars.

An official at the NCAA corroborated the information that the agency was largely kept in the dark about the transaction. “We were never privy to the transaction and had not seen the cars even though our head of transport was made to sign the delivery note,” said the source. The agency is under the Ministry of Aviation.

The source added that the agency has still not seen the cars even after the scandal escalated.

SaharaReporters was first to break the news that Ms. Oduah compelled a cash-strapped NCAA to pay for two extravagantly priced bullet-proof BMWs for her personal use. After initially denying our reports, the minister’s spokesman, Joe Obi, admitted that the transaction transpired. Mr. Obi alleged that the purchase was justified because of unspecified threats to the minister’s life. Neither Mr. Obi nor the minister has provided proof of any threats to Ms. Oduah. The minister has not addressed why the NCAA paid a price tag that auto dealers in the US and the UK described as a rip-off. US dealers said that each of the BMW cars should cost no more than $$167,000.

Last week, an official of the NCAA, Fola Akinkuotu, spoke to the media and defended the purchase of the cars. Mr. Akinkuotu said the cars were for the ministry’s protocol pool for use in transporting foreign aviation dignitaries when they visit Nigeria. His explanation conflicted with the original statement by the minister’s spokesman, Mr. Obi. A source at the NCAA disclosed that Mr. Akinkuotu felt tricked into facing the media on the scandal. “He had been told he would only appear beside the embattled minister, who was supposed to speak. Instead, he was asked to speak,” said the source.
Meanwhile, a source at the Presidency said President Goodluck Jonathan was unfazed about the fraud perpetrated by Ms. Stella Oduah, his Aviation Minister. Ms. Oduah and the late former National Security Advisor, General Owoye Azazi, had played significant roles in raising and disbursing money to rig the 2011 presidential elections for Mr. Jonathan.  Mr. Jonathan will depart Abuja tomorrow on a weeklong pilgrimage to Israel.

However, SaharaReporters learnt that several ministers and diplomats have registered their displeasure at Mr. Jonathan’s continued retention of Ms. Oduah on his cabinet.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are engaged to be married, a source tells US Weekly.The rapper proposed yesterday, on Kardashian’s 33rd birthday, in front of friends and family at AT&T Park in San Francisco.

Earlier in the day, the 36-year-old rapper had presented and award at the Hollywood Film Awards in Beverly Hills but flew to the Bay Area to meet up with his future bride, 33. He had reportedly rented the stadium solely for the proposal. When he popped the question, the stadium's Jumbotron displayed, "PLEEEASE MARRY MEEE!!!" and the Chicago Symphony performed. Hairstylist Clyde Haygood got a picture of the ring. Kim's sister Khloé tweeted some typically exclamation-point-filled reactions, asking if she was dreaming and proclaiming her tears of joy.

West had just begun his Yeezus tour, which he kicked off with a two-hour set Saturday night. The next day, he had postponed that night's show, the second of the tour, at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver until Halloween. It has yet to be confirmed if that decision was related to the proposal. 

West's Yeezus tour will resume in the Bay Area at Oakland's Oracle Arena tomorrow night.

This is West's second publically known engagement. It will be Kardashian's third marriage, following her divorce from Boston Celtics power forward Kris Humphries, which was finalized June 3 of this year. West and Kardashian began dating early last year and "admitted" he fell in love with Karsdashian that July. He announced last year at a concert in Atlantic City that Kardashian was pregnant with his child, and, in June of this year, the couple welcomed their daughter, North "Nori" West, into the world. West offered up his first TV interview in three years to Kardashian's mother, Kris Jenner, in August, where he revealed the first photo of North and joked, "There's times when I wasn't with [Kim], I wanted be with her so bad I thought about taking up sports."

"[Marriage] is something I know that we both want in our future, but I don't have this sense of urgency about it," Kardashian reportedly told Cosmopolitan earlier this year. But later in the interview, she said of the relationship, "It just feels like this is it for me."

We met in November 2012 in a wedding he was emceeing; I was in the bridal train. According to him, he picked an interest. Well, I was in a serious relationship at the time, though I didn’t know where that was leading.

Meeting him, he was all over me. The first thing that came out of his mouth was; “…you are my wife”. Me I was like, “you know you’re very funny, I don’t want this oh. So please just let me concentrate”. Later on I just told him, “You say you want to marry me, sorry I’m in a serious relationship and I cannot leave my guy for you”. He said, okay, just go back and think about it. We exchanged numbers, and then he called.

We started dating this year; February 2013 after my former relationship broke up unhappily. I’ll say that God had already designed Ime for me, because he’s one of the best guys I’ve ever met. Being with him these 8 months, it’s as if I’ve known him for years. He makes me happy; I smile a lot. I’ll say I’m lucky, he’s so lovely.

How did he propose? We had a misunderstanding and I wanted to just ignore him. Then he drove to my house and called me out, we sat in the car. Then he said, “So you think I will not marry you. Now, will you marry me?” I was smiling like, “my friend, di nyong (you’ll have to leave)”. He said he was serious. Then I said I’d have to think about it, talk to my mom and all. He said I had 3 days to respond. Then after he left, we spoke on the phone. I told him if he really wanted to marry me, he should come and see my mother. He came and spoke with her, and that was it.

What I have to say to him: I call him baby, but let me tell him that I love him. My prayer is that God should give me the ability, the strength…I thank God for bringing him to my life and I promise him that I’ll not just be the best. I promise to be submissive to him.

Groom:

We met sometime in November. I met her in a wedding I emceeing; she was in the train. She was impeccably outstanding. I couldn’t help but notice her. I got so distracted – never been that distracted arguably all my life. While emceeing, I was gazing at her. I rounded off as quickly as I could and intercepted her before she got into the car and talked my way to getting her contact.

What did I tell her? I told her she’s beautiful. I don’t know how to beat about the bush; I told her I liked her so much. I didn’t act like in movies. I tried to wear the seemingly responsible look. I told her that she had arrested me, distracted me, I could hardly know what I was saying.

Her response: She was chuckling, Looking at me and laughing. I believe she didn’t take me seriously.
Was I in a relationship that time? I can’t say. “I can’t categorically say” (laughs) that I was in a relationship. I was in a pseudo relationship, a phantom relationship. A break up was very much inevitable. I met her (my wife to be) with the mind to marry her.
 

Getting to know each other, one, two, three, four conversations and it just dawned on me that, well, this is the right thing. I asked her the big question; she said she’ll think of it. I didn’t have rest that night. She then gave me an answer.

At what point did I get convinced that this is my wife? When she started showing care, checking up on me… You know I’m an actor; I sometimes screamed at her when I knew I’m not supposed to, just to watch her reaction. It is very difficult to pretend when it has to do with me. I’ll push you almost over the cliff; that demon in you will come out. When I see I can cope with that demon, then you’re as good as being my wife.

What do I have to say to her? Well, I’m here. Finally, I’m gonna get married to her. We have each other for keeps. I’m going to love her unflinchingly. I don’t see myself following the seeming convention of men cheating on their wives. I’m not trying to say I’m perfect or I rely solely on myself. Even the bible says by strength shall no man prevail. I trust on the grace of God to help me sail through. I’m gonna be a super-husband to her and a super-dad to my kids.

How many kids? I want to have 3, all boys. Why? Easier to train…(laughs).

David Bryan, who was running the line in front of Tottenham Hotspur fans at Aston Villa, was hit by a flare or smoke bomb thrown after Andros Townsend opened the scoring for Spurs in the first half.

Hundreds of thousands of TV viewers watched on Sky Sports 1 as the blue firework was launched from a section of Spurs fans in the Doug Ellis Stand during the game at Villa Park in Birmingham.

The singer tweeted: 'I'm nervous&excited to share something that's such a piece of my heart. Something I cherish deeply.'
She went on to provide a countdown: 'Album cover can be unlocked in 30 min by trending #iHeartARTPOP !'
Gaga then endearingly admitted her own nervousness: 'I'll be in the bathroom throwing up'.
Minutes later she unveiled the cover art with the caption: 'FULL ARTPOP ALBUM COVER.'

By way of explanation she wrote: 'Please welcome Jeff Koons into our family [plus] shower him with love for the the talents he has shared with us. A pure and genuine collaborator.'
Her final message revealed that the image of her naked was in fact a sculpture created by pop artist Jeff Koons, who famously immortalised Michael Jackson and his pet chimpanzee Bubbles with a similar sculpture in 1988.
The fragmented collage art surrounding Gaga's nude bust on the album cover appears to be made of cut outs from Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, painted in 1486.

The Roman goddess originally represented love, beauty, sex, and fertility - and Gaga seems to be dressing the part during her performances and the music video for her single Applause.
Seeming to mimic the large windblown hair and seashell themes of the classic painting, Gaga's costume for Applause - both in her stage performances and in the official video - features a large wig and a clamshell bikini.
The motifs could represent an underlying thematic message regarding sex and empowerment for the forthcoming album.

Either way, Gaga has clearly made the painting of Venus a theme both in her style and cover art for ARTPOP.
Another image on the album cover is a blue ball, that is strategically placed to protect the Poker Face singer's modesty.
According to MTV.com the entire sculpture, including Gaga, is made from white plaster and is part of Koons' ongoing series called Gazing Ball.
The release date for ARTPOP is scheduled for November 11.

According to a report by Vanguard the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday October 18th paraded a 40-year-old man, Adeyemi Stephen Akintolure (pictured above), a suspected fake medical doctor, who claimed to be a staff of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, with card No. 13541, identifying him as a surgeon and gynaecologist.

He said he is from Ondo State, studied Marketing at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, as a part-time student and graduated in 1997.

The fake medical doctor was said to have fraudulently obtained N500,000 from one Joy Umosekhaimhe of 2, Adesanya Close, Ifeko-Gbagada.

Akintolure, who said he uses the wife’s car as a mobile clinic, said the money in question was borrowed from Umosekhaimhe, adding “actually, it was not N500,000. It was N260,000 she lent me to use for my brother’s ailment.”

 According to Akintolure, “I have not treated more than 10 people. I just treat them for malaria and typhoid and I also give injections too because of my experience at Rivic Hospital at Akure.”

When asked how he got the identity card, he said he got it from a business centre and that the computer operator signed it for him.

He said that he charges between N3,000 and N4,000 per patient, adding that his wife was not aware of his trade.

Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ngozi Braide, said she received a petition at the area H Police Command Headquarters, Ogudu, on July 19, that one Adeyemi Stephen Akintolure obtained N500,000 from one Joy Umosekhaimhe.

Braide said that a letter was written to LUTH on July 23 to authenticate Akintolure claims of being a staff.
She said: “On October 10, LUTH replied that the suspect is not an employee of the hospital and was not issued the identity card.

“In view of the revelation, the suspect confessed that he is not a medical doctor, but has been practising for about four years, using his wife’s vehicle as a mobile clinic.”

She said his house and vehicle were searched and drugs, injections, syringes and laboratory coat were recovered

'My husband Chased Me Out Of The House, My First Son Slapped Me' - Winner Of Supermom Reality Show Reveals

The Society for the Safety of the Insane and Destitute (SOSAID) emerged winner of the fourth edition of the Supermom reality show, which was broadcast on various Nigerian television channels.

The orphanage, which was founded by Mrs. Concern Martins beat other finalist to win the grand price of N2m.

Recalling her experience, the founder, Mrs Martins said she was chased out the house by her husband and slapped by her first son because they were embarrassed with her SOSAID project.

“In the beginning, I was going about the streets with camera crew and those who will help in carrying the insane for me, this made my husband chased me out of the house because he felt I was embarrassing the family even my first son hit me on the face and I slept on the street for eight months when I started the project.

“When I see some schools discriminating against my kids, telling the kids not to come to school because they are from So-Said (motherless babies’ home) I shed tears," she said.

Describing Mrs Martins, 44 year old medical matron at So-Said, identified as Mrs. Gift Abudu said she was a charitable and God-fearing woman.

In a shocking turn of events, the aviation ministry and its officials have begun a manhunt for the official that leaked information about the purchase of expensive bullet-proof cars for the Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah.

The cars, reportedly bought for 255 million naira, were acquired for Mrs. Oduah by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in a move which has seen a lot of backlash with various groups calling for investigations into the minister’s affairs and others demanding her resignation.

The Director-General, NCAA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, disclosed this at a press conference at the head office of the Federal Ministry of Aviation in Abuja on Friday,

He said the Federal Government was concerned about how the information got leaked to the public, noting that whoever leaked the information committed a criminal offence. He explained that the agency had begun moves to uncover the person[s] that leaked the information to the public.

He said, “I am not saying that this particular information should not be put in the public domain. But how it was obtained is the concern. If somebody breaks into an office and makes copies of official documents, then the break-in has become criminal.

“So we are in the process of trying to find the source of this leakage and I am very concerned about it. Because this information may look trivial but there are other information that we have that are confidential and it is only fair for us to respect the confidentiality of information. I am not saying that they broke into our office, but they obtained the information illegally.”

The visibly terrified Akinkuotu said he was stunned to see the documents in the open, stressing that the information were leaked illegally.

He said he was “shell shocked that government information and particularly information from the civil aviation authority has gotten into public purview in an illegal manner. It is criminal! However, what has been done has been done, but I think when such information is gotten, you should have come to the agency to ask. We are not shy to take your questions.”

Akinkuotu stated that Snowden of the United States ran away after leaking confidential information, adding, “He (Snowden) went on the run after putting such information in the public domain. The sources of the leak I don’t know, but yesterday, I issued a circular to all staff on this issue. I will read a little part of the circular: ‘Without prejudice to the nature and the purpose of this act, you should know that leakage and ultimate publication is a matter of great concern to the authority.’

NCAA had purchased two vehicles valued at a whopping $1.6m said to have been delivered to Oduah in August this year. The armoured vehicles, BMW 760 Li, were bought from Coscharis Motors Limited in Lagos.

An online news medium, SaharaReporters, had reported on Tuesday that the armoured vehicles were delivered to the minister in August.

The medium reported that documents in its possession showed that the transaction for the purchase of the two BMW cars started in June, but the request for the delivery of and payment for them was fast-tracked between August 13 and 15, 2013.

The transaction involved the NCAA, First Bank of Nigeria, and Coscharis Motors Limited, according to the report.

The two black BMW 760 Li HSS vehicles had chasis numbers WBAHP41050DW68032 and WBAHP41010DW68044, and were reportedly delivered to the NCAA on August 13, 2013. They were received by two store managers, F. Onoabhagbe and Y. A. Amzat, who is also the agency’s head of transport.
